In the pet dog training world, it might be called a “pack walk” where one takes any number of dogs for an off-leash walk. I usually just refer to it as “hiking with my dogs” but the idea is the same. As simple as it sounds, I have found that the act of hiking along with my pack is one of the most helpful things I do when it comes to “putting a handle” on my dogs. Marching along altogether helps my dogs and I get on the same page and working together as a team, so I’ve been trying to do it with my 4-pack of blue pups as much as possible.
This week I posted a short video of a recent hike I took about a month ago on a beautiful sunny day. At the time, Coulee was in heat and had to stay home, so it was just Roux and the pups. I had intentions of hunting Roux, but when after a dozen or so miles of road I came to a locked timber company gate, I decided to take the opportunity to get some boot miles in with the pack.
It wasn’t anything too eventful, but we had a good time. More importantly, the puppies some recall practice in and are slowly getting better at coming to me when I call them.
Check out the video on YouTube, and if you haven’t subscribed to the Hound on the Run channel, please consider doing so!
I hope everyone has an excellent Thanksgiving and eats way too much homecooked comfort food. I’m incredibly grateful for getting to share my hound-related adventures with everyone and for all the love everyone has shown me about my book and videos lately — thank you all so much!
Talk soon,
