Call me a fur-mom all you want I don’t care—I’m obsessed with my puppies and have more photos to share with you. Enjoy.
Day 44: July 21st, 2022
At only 2.5 years old himself, Roux is still a puppy at heart and very playful. With Coulee, his usual playmate, being pregnant and stuck in the house raising the puppies, he had no one to really play with. But once the puppies packed on a few pounds, they were fair game for his shenanigans.
Day 47 : July 24th, 2022
The bigger the puppies got, the funnier it was to watch them nurse. Whereas before Coulee had to laydown for them to partake, now they could sit comfortably and latch on. She couldn’t enter the yard without getting attacked.
Sweet, innocent, Tika.
Tika with the crazy eyes.
Tika wild’n out.
Plum became the de facto babysitter.
It’s hilarious how many Plum-like tendencies the puppies have. I’ll write more about the saga of Plum another time, but he had a hard life before coming home with us. He comes from really good bloodlines with some quite famous Blueticks in his pedigree and can locate a coon in a tree like no other, but definitely has some quirks in the woods that are … challenging to say the least. It’s going to be very interesting to see how these pups turn out as hunters, but so far I’m liking what I’m seeing them do.
Day 50: July 27th, 2022
Group nap sesh in the kennel with Uncle Roux.
Day 54: August 1st, 2022
About two weeks before this photo, I introduced the pups to the crate. They took to it right away and I didn’t have to do much to get them what I consider fully crate trained.
What I found is that by just working the pups into my normal routines I keep with the dogs, it all just became part of the only life they’ve ever known. I don’t know the origin of the saying, but one of my favorites is: “A dog only knows what you let him know.”
Day 55: August 2nd, 2022
Tika, getting bigger and even more stunning.
Pip, the runt, will probably always be the smallest but he sort of caught up to the rest. What he lacks in size he makes up for in pure, unadulterated craziness.
Righty, one of the puppies I sold. His new family renamed him Dax.
Lefty, the other pup I sold. His new name is Nelson.
Clover is the tallest, lankiest pup and has a body built the most like his dad.
Plum always plays great with his offspring and seems like he takes his role as a father very seriously.
This was just before they realized the plastic lawn chairs are the best chew toys ever.
Tika and Pip make a great power duo. I can’t wait to see them hunt together.
Roux and Lefty playing hard.

P.S. Did you know I wrote a book about my bobcat hunting adventures? It’s called Cat Dog Chronicles and I wrote it to share my journey with both other hound hunters and non-hunters alike. Fellow hunters — I know you’ll find it entertaining and relatable … But if you’ve never been hound hunting but are curious about what it’s really like, my personal story will give you a glimpse into this complex sport and show that it’s not as easy as you might think!
